  • 2024 Holiday and Q1 2025 Forecast: Industry-wide bookings are below pace, with Japanese tourism still unpredictable, highlighting the need for policymakers to understand these challenges for upcoming legislative decisions.

  • Rosanna Maietta as AHLA President & CEO: AHLA has appointed Rosanna Maietta as its new leader, bringing back her strategic expertise and leadership, effective November 14.

  • Hawaiʻi County Restrict Vacation Rentals on Agriculture Lands: The Hawaiʻi Supreme Court affirmed Hawaiʻi County’s decision to restrict vacation rentals on agriculture lands, as those structures can only be used as farm dwellings. 

  • Honolulu Land Use Ordinance Bill 64: HHA has provided testimony and proposed amendments to clarify “Hotel” definitions and to retain joint development provisions, with a final hearing expected in December.

  • Bill 46 and Short-Term Rental (STR) Loopholes: HHA supports Bill 46 to convert vacant homes to long-term rentals but raises concerns that the current language may create a loophole for STR operators.

  • AHICE Aloha Conference (Nov 7-8, 2024): Premier hotel industry event returning to Hawaiʻi at the OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber and Ala Moana Hotel, featuring 60+ speakers on hotel investment, operations, and networking opportunities for local and global leaders.
